Power back for North Ave. businesses near fire

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The lights are back on for businesses near the tanning salon that caught fire late Wednesday night.

Xcel Energy had cut the power to Tropical Island Tanning Salon along with two neighboring businesses.

Adakirky Imports is right next door to Tropical Island Tanning Salon. Although the fire was contained to the tanning salon, Adakirky Imports owner Kirk Fisher said his business is still suffering some damage.

Fisher in the process of cleaning up a broken door, which fire fighters had kicked in, and the soot that now covers his shelves of items for sale.

If the power outage had lasted longer, Fisher said it could have hurt business during his busiest time of year.

"Halloween is usually really good for me and then it kicks off into the holidays, so it's going to be a struggle getting everything up and going again," he said.

Fire fighters estimate it will take some time to determine the damage and loss for the tanning salon from the fire.

A tattoo shop on the other side of Adakirky Imports was also affected by the power outage.
