MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) The Colorado Department of Health chose fifteen counties where they'll launch their new 'SafeCare Colorado' program, and Mesa County is one of them.

The program trains at-risk families or those who have been reported for child abuse or neglect.

The Mesa County Health Department and the Department of Human Services applied for the SafeCare grant and says their success is because of good, existing cooperation.

"We feel like it's going to be something we can use to build this model throughout the entire state," says Mesa County Health Department Executive Director, Jeff Kuhr. "There are certainly areas that we work on together that public health from a prevention perspective can have an impact on human services."

In addition to being one of the first fifteen counties to have SafeCare, Mesa County was chosen to be one of three sites state-wide to pilot the program.
