GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The western slope continues to be under a red air quality advisory through at least 3 pm this Friday. The advisory is based on weather conditions in Mesa County, Delta, and Montrose.
During a red air quality advisory all the pollutants from different sources like stoves, cars, and wood fireplaces become trapped, and that can lead to health issues.
"This type of pollution is very fine, so it's very fine particles can enter deeply into the lungs and can even enter the blood stream so people with asthma and the elderly are the most susceptible," says Ed Brotsky, air quality specialist.
Another way that you can help besides avoiding burning wood is to carpool. Officials at the health department say if we work together as a community, we can make a difference during an inversion.
