A new addition to the Redlands skyline will improve emergency communication and personal cell phone coverage for the area, but some say it ruins the view.
"I don't recall getting any kind of notice... it didn't seem like a fair series of hearings ya know," said Redlands resident Dennis Devore.
His neighbor Gary Pheufer said he was out of town during the city hearing or he would have objected to the tower being put up.
"There will be better coverage when the cell companies co-locate on that tower," said city official Greg Moberg.
The tower is owned by a private entity. A man by the name of Rex Jennings of STB Internet approached the city planning board in July about the tower.
Once he received approval he asked emergency responders if the would like to co-locate on the tower.
"I know it will be an improvement over what we have now because there are specific areas that have no coverage at all," said Monica Million of Grand Junction Police Department.
While residents say they wish they had more say in the matter, they say it is something they can live with; especially if it means less dropped calls across the river.
