Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - For a number of years now both Grand Junction and Mesa County law enforcement have been looking to construct a regional public safety training facility and CMU may be able to help.
The university officially acquired a 79 acre site from the BLM off highway 141 and 50 that would be used for the training facility.
However, after a recent bid for improvements, it came in over budget. So now CMU and partners are asking city council for 80,000 dollars to help with the shortfall. “Its been a topic of conversation for at least ten years now, and is viewed to be very important in terms of the next level of training that we could offer for our law enforcement folks,” says Tim Moore Deputy City Manager.
As of right now city council has given the ok for the Deputy City Manager to continue to work on the plans and then report to council before they give they final ok to send the $80,000.00.
CMU police academy and law enforcement agencies would use the site. The city is also considering whether the site could be used by the fire department as well.
