COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO) - Matching Rick Santorum's bid for Colorado, Mitt Romney had his eye on the Centennial State Saturday. Romney campaigned in Colorado Springs while speaking before about a thousand people at a large metal fabrication facility. He gave no credit to President Obama for the strong January jobs report. He says that the unemployment rate is worse than even the president's target, as he began his term in office.
"This president came into office and said, 'Okay, we're going to get this economy going by borrowing 787 billion dollars in a stimulus.' And he said if we borrowed that money he would hold unemployment below 8 percent. It has not been below 8 percent since. And he's celebrating that its at 8.3. Well, that's still above the emergency line of 8 percent, and by the way, he doesn't get credit for things getting better," says Romney.
Romney won Nevada's caucus Saturday. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Congressman Ron Paul remain in a tight race for second. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum finished last in the Nevada contest.
As Newt Gingrich continues to tail Romney in the polls, he too is courting Colorado voters. Gingrich will be in Golden on Monday for a rally and to address the Colorado Energy Summit.
