Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Since the tragic school shooting in Newtown nearly two weeks ago, the push to improve safety in schools continues to grow. Area law enforcement and the school district issued a joint statement about safety measures implemented to prevent such an incident from happening here.

Colorado State Senator Steve King believes we can better protect students by placing armed officers in all schools. The question of funding still remains an issue.

"Many hands make light work, and that is the same idea when it comes to funding these projects, especially one as important as the safety and security of our kids," says Senator King.

King says a combination of funding from local, state and federal agencies would be the best way to help schools afford the added security.
