FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - A nasty looking accident between a truck pulling a horse trailer and a semi truck on 13 Road Monday morning, but both drivers survived.

Colorado State Patrol and Lower Valley Fire Department officials responded to the scene. They say a black pickup hauling a horse trailer with no animals inside was passing through a shady spot along the road and the driver of the semi pulled out in front of it, unable to see the truck.

The driver of the truck was trapped under the semi and had to be extricated. He was taken to the hospital in stable, but serious, condition.

"Anytime you collide with a semi, he was looking about as good as you could, for the condition of the vehicle," says Trooper Dan Chermock.

Troopers say drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
