Some bears still active in Colo. mountains

FRISCO, Colo. (AP) -- Wildlife officials say continued warm temperatures in Colorado's mountains mean some bears are still active.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife biologist Sean Shepherd tells The Summit Daily News (http://bit.ly/Zl5gNt ) that bears in the area normally begin hibernating in early October, but he is still getting reports of sightings.

He says bears are typically well settled into their dens by November and do not emerge until late April. But without dropping temperatures and snow, they are without a cue to begin their hibernation.
