PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) On Thursday evening, two local veterans received some much needed financial aid, presented to them by the Palisade American Legion Auxiliary Unit #50.
Each year the Auxiliary raises money by holding a 9/11 Poppy drive, giving out poppy flowers handmade by our veterans.
But the money they make is strictly for those who have served.
"The money could only be used for disabled veterans going to treatment, or to help veterans and their families or veterans that have been injured," says Palisade American Legion President, Julie Dominguez-Aysse.
Including the $600 donated on Thursday, the Auxiliary unit has already donated $1,200 this year to local veterans in need of assistance.
The vets are nominated and then chosen based on severity and type of need.
