Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) -- This past weekend, the Mesa County fairgrounds hosted the "Rope the Rockies" team roping event.
Event organizers were kept busy with over 750 teams competing for "flex-earnings" that would help qualify them for the national finals.
Event secretary, Monica Pankau, said that competitors come from near and far to take part in the event.
"We have a lot of local here from Grand Junction, Parachute... just right around this area," said Pankau. "We [also] have people here from New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma... quite a range of people."
As of Sunday afternoon, the total payout for the competition had been about $77,000 and over $17,000 in prizes.
