GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. County commissioners gather to form a resolution about the next sheriff of Mesa County.
Commissioners met for an administrative hearing early Monday morning to come to a decision about Mesa County's interim sheriff.
With Sheriff Hilkey stepping down in mid June, Mesa County will need someone to lead the sheriff's department until January.
“The executive session was necessary to receive legal advice in full confidentiality to help us move forward regarding this entire question,” says County Commissioner, Steve Acquafresca.
Officials have selected under-sheriff Rebecca Speiss as the front-runner for the position.
The appointment of under-sheriff Speiss will not be official until after next Monday's administrative hearing and she will not take office until June 16th.
