GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Congressman Scott Tipton is encouraging the Colorado National Monument to host part a major bike race. Tipton urged National Park Service officials to approve the Quiznos Pro Challenge bicycling race at the Monument next year. The Monument's superintendent initially rejected the event, over concerns about the amount of cars, people and cost. Tipton says race organizers are making sure the event wouldn't negatively affect the monument.

"It has no impact. They (race organizers) reached out to the superintendent on the Monument, showing a willingness to be able to work together, and it's going to have that positive economic impact. I see this as an opportunity to create a win–win," says Tipton.

Tipton says organizers changed their plans to be more pleasing to the Park Service, and subsequently resubmitted the proposal. He also sent his comments to the National park Services regional director. The Grand Junction city council unanimously supports the idea.
