'Tis (almost) the season

PALISADE, Colo. The weather is warming up and flowers and fruits are beginning to bloom which means one thing, peaches!

We're still a few months away from harvest time but growers across the Grand Valley are gearing up for the start of the season.

Early freezes last season left many growers in trouble, a situation they all hope to avoid this year.

"That's how we keep the farm going, that's our source of income," says owner of Aloha's Organic Fruit, Steven Sherer. "Everything looks real good for a good year."

To fight back against the colder temperatures, growers install wind machines and heaters early on in the year, and when both are up and running, orchards can reach up to five degrees warmer than the surrounding temperatures.
