MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- You may want to allocate more time for your commute in the weeks ahead.

Workers will be breaking ground on three new road reconstruction projects on Monday, April 8.

Here is an overview of each project from City of Grand Junction Public Works & Planning Department.

I-70 B Reconstruction Phase 3

The Colorado Department of Transportation will work to improve the area of I-70 B between 25 Road to about 1,000 feet east of the Rimrock Avenue intersection. Crews will add a third lane in each direction, improve intersections and access, and reconstruct the concrete.

Here's how it will affect traffic:

  • Two lanes in each direction will stay open, but short traffic stops may occur (though crews will try to keep them at a minimum).

  • The speed limit in the area will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph

  • You will only be able to turn left at intersections with traffic signals.

  • Business access may be altered at times, but it will always be maintained.

  • Evening and weekend work may be done to finish the project faster.

22 Road Realignment Project

In this project, U.S. Highway 6 will be reconstructed between Valley Court and the Exit 26 Interchange (about 1/3 of a mile). A new connecting street will link Valley Court and 22 Road, and the new intersection will move 500 feet west of its current location to improve safety.

Here's how traffic will look:

  • Starting Monday, lane will be shifted during the day time. Traffic will move to the outside edges of the road, but two lanes will be open in either direction.

  • Speed limits will drop down to 35 mph in that area.

  • In the first part, crews will remove the media and put down temporary paving.

2013 Street Overlay Program

Across the city, expect to see asphalt milling in the following locations:

  • April 8: Spruce Street on the east side of the Justice Center (the street will be closed half of the day)

  • April 9: 28 ¼ Road from Hall Avenue to Patterson Road (closure will last through mid-Wednesday)

  • April 11 and 12: B ½ Road from Sherman Drive to 29 Road (delays are possible while crews work there).
