Transient gets 12 years for sexual assault

A homeless man who tried to kidnap and sexually assault a young boy is sentenced 12 years in prison.

Thomas Dausel, 47, was handed down the decision Wednesday for second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor unlawful sexual contact in the Mesa County Justice Center today.

He will also get three years of mandatory parole.

Last February, Dausel tried to take a nine-year-old boy from a park near Rocky Mountain Elementary School. The child was sexually assaulted during the attempted abduction.

Two people who witnessed the attack rescued the boy while police were called.

Dausel had pleaded not guilty of the charges, but a jury convicted him.
