Turkey Drive aims to get 1,700 birds

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Salvation Army is making sure local families have plenty to gobble up on Thanksgiving.

The nonprofit is kicking off its Annual Turkey Drive this Thursday, Nov. 15, at Nick-N-Willy’s Pizza on Horizon Drive from 4 to 7 p.m.

The festivities will include a bounce house, cotton candy machine, a Grand Valley Vixen Roller Girls’ demonstration and a surprise activity from the Colorado Army National Guard. While you’re there, you can also see a display of the Western Slope Harley Owners Group bikes and apply for the Annual Toy Run.

Last year, the drive gathered 1,120 turkeys; this year, the goal is 1,700 birds.

If you can’t make it to Nick-N-Willy’s Thursday, you can still donate a turkey at 1235 N. 4th Street in Grand Junction Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
