Turkey Hunters donate to Salvation Army for holidays

Turkey hunters mean a lot to us around Thanksgiving, but this year they're doing more than just hunting the birds.

The Western Slope chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is giving back. Monday, the group presented the Salvation Army and the Food Bank of the Rockies with $1,000 worth of cash and frozen turkeys for the holidays.

The group said it gets a lot of support from the local communities, and the donation is just a way to help out during the holiday season.

"We like to do things here locally, and the biggest thing is to have that impact, and so to be able to increase these on the holidays for families in need show that really turkey hunters care," said Russ Means, the president of the group.

This is the third year the group is donating through the Turkey Hunters Care Program. This year's donation is the biggest so far.
