GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - While some were preparing the turkey and stuffing, others were lacing up their sneakers to get in a quick, early morning workout in the 6th Annual Turkey Trot.
About 1,100 people of all ages participated in the 5K course which traveled from the Connected Lakes State Park to the Colorado River Trail.
For those running the event for the first time, they were happy to have made it through.
"I'm glad I crossed the finish line," said Tim Stewart. "Yes, it was definitely hard around the track, especially the last mile was difficult for me, but it was still a great event."
After the run, competitors were provided with a pancake cookout, entertainment and energy drinks.
A majority of the funds raised from the 5K run will benefit injured and sick firefighters, and some of the money will be donated to Toys for Tots.
