GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- For the second consecutive year, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge nixed Grand Junction's efforts to host a stage in Colorado-born race.

On Wednesday, Pro Challenge officials released the route of the third annual race which will take place August 19-25, 2013.

Starting in Aspen and making its way through the high country and beautiful mountain towns such as Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge, the race never comes any further west than Aspen.

The final stop in the race is the state capital.

In a statement released by the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau on Wednesday community leaders say they are "disappointed, but we take pride in the bid submitted."

The statement does not, however, make it clear if Grand Junction will submit a bid for a third consecutive year in 2013.

"[We] will address any future USA Pro Cycle Challenge bids at a later date," the statement reads.

Overall 19 cities submitted bids to host a stage in the race, but only 8 cities will be granted that opportunity.
