Ute Water postones upcoming fee increases

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Ute Water Conservancy District's Board of Directors has decided to postpone looming increases in tap fees.

Earlier this month, the board approved a tap fee increase on all residential, commercial and agricultural taps.

Today the board voted to postpone the changes. The fee increases were originally scheduled to go in effect on Jan. 1, 2013, but now they will not start until Feb. 1, 2013.

A spokesperson for Ute Water says the later date will give contractors and residents more time to prepare for the changes.

However, tap fees will still be going up from $5,800 to $6,500 for average residents. Fees for other tap sizes will go up proportionally as well.
