GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Many of us are soaking up the sunny skies and mild temperatures, but the lack of winter weather is already having a negative impact on some businesses here on the Western Slope.

According to the Summit Daily, Vail Resorts' bookings are down during the first quarter, and Powderhorn will meet next week to discuss its schedule, which is expected to open on Dec. 13, for now. If the snow doesn't start falling soon, it could mean bad news for some businesses.

"Definitely going to hurt us; it already has,” Traz Snow and Skate assistant manager Drew Fairfield said.

For Traz, sales aren’t only slow for snowboards and gear for the mountain.

"Honestly we've sold more sunglasses, and I just sold a pair of board shorts earlier today. It's insane how much it hurts our apparel too."

The store is even doing its postseason sales now-- before the season-- because of the slow snow year.

"Just kind of bummed that we don't have as much snow business going out the door," Fairfield said.

The Aspen Business Journal reports that Aspen Mountain and Snowmass have opened a few runs, but the quality of skiing is marginal at best right now.

Sunlight Mountain is scheduled to open Friday, but more snow is needed for that to happen. Its website says you should call and check before heading up to the mountain.
