MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) -- A warrant has been issued for the owner who refused to turn is dog Dutch over to Montrose authorities to be euthanized.
According to our partners at the Montrose Daily Press, a Montrose municipal judge has not ruled on contempt allegations for Jeremiah Aguilar's failure to hand the dog over, but Judge Richard Brown did issue a bench warrant for Aguilar's arrest after he failed to appear Thursday for a contempt hearing.
In court, Aguilar's defense attorney provided the city attorney and special prosecutor with information about an Oklahoma sanctuary where Aguilar has reportedly taken Dutch.
In February, the judge ordered that Dutch, an American Allaunt, be euthanized for a severe attack on his former owner. Aguilar was also sentenced for owning a dangerous animal and was instructed to turn Dutch over to animal control, but instead, he sent Dutch into hiding.
Aguilar is appealing his conviction through the Montrose County Court.
