MESA COUNTY, Colo. In the last 30 years, studies have shown obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents.
But a new healthy lifestyle program aimed at improving children's activity and nutrition is looking to slow down the growing problem.
"We Can is a program for families to help them start adopting healthy habits," says We Can Mesa County medical director, Dr, Barbara Zind. "Exercising, eating healthy and just kind of changing habits to become more healthy."
We can Mesa County was started in October of 2012 and has since had 60+ student graduates, with more than 100 currently enrolled. Families are asked to attend for at least six weeks.
We Can has found in those six weeks, the BMI's of half of the kids enrolled stabilized or even decreased.
