GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- More than two months since their deaths, William and Tyler Jensen were laid to rest today. Loved ones and community members gathered to pay their respects and say their final goodbyes.

The funeral, held at Palisade Christian Church, was a long time coming for the boys' grandparents who fought a court battle to be able to bury their grandsons.

Today, friends and family members showered each other with hugs and support as they said good bye to their beloved boys.

"It's hard to believe that they're really gone, it's still sinking in that they're gone," said family friend, Kimberly Owens.

For many in attendance, the burial service was not "good bye," but "see you again one day." As bagpipes played, a dozen doves were released in honor of William and Tyler's journey.

The boys are being remembered for their ability to make anyone smile and their love for being outside.

"They're never going to be forgotten, they will always be in everybody's hearts that they touched and they touched so many people," Owens said.

Robert and Diane Mathena, the boys' grandparents, expressed their gratitude to the community for raising more than $10,000, enabling them to hold the burial. Since much of the funeral expenses were paid for by Palisade Funeral Home, the remainder after paying the rest of the costs will go towards a memorial scholarship fund at Taylor Elementary School in Palisade where Tyler attended preschool.

The boys' mother, Heather Jensen, is facing multiple felony child abuse charges after allegedly leaving her sons in her car for 90 minutes.
