GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- A woman accused of stealing $6,000 worth of Girl Scout cookie money will serve six months in work release.

In February, Carmen Wysong pleaded guilty to one count of theft, a class four felony charge.

Wysong appeared at the Mesa County Justice Center Monday for her sentencing. She will serve eight months of probation, 100 hours of community service and pay just over $4,800 in restitution.

The 27-year-old was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts when more than $6,000 went missing from the funds. Wysong originally reported to Mesa County Sheriff's deputies that it had been stolen from her former residence and that she had no idea where it was.

After further questioning, she admitted to deputies that she took money and spent it, according to an arrest warrant.
