GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Fruita Monument defeated Durango 18-17 in Southwestern League play on Friday.
After allowing four runs from Durango, Fruita went scoreless in their half of the first inning. When the second rolled around, Sam Schroeder delivered from the mound with two strikeouts that eventually landed Fruita back on offense unharmed. At that point, they were on fire.
Gabe Treider got the scoring started with a two-run single, and his teammates followed suit. By the end of the inning Fruita held a 6-4 lead.
Both teams continued to pour on the runs (and the errors), but the Wildcats had the final say, taking the win 18-17 to improve to 3-0 in the SWL.
