GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The 11th edition of Cage Wars sets up shop at Colorado Mesa's Brownson Arena this Saturday, February 4th.
Courtesy of a new deal reached between the Colorado Mesa Athletics Department and BushCree Promotions, Saturday's fight night will be the first of four scheduled events at the Mavericks home court this calendar year.
Alex Trottier, owner and president of BushCree Promotions, is excited to have the new deal in place with CMU and Brownson arena because it will afford guests and fans with a much high-quality viewing experience than at previous events. "The bleacher seating at Brownson will be much better than the flat seating we previously had," Trottier said while comparing CMU's arena to Two Rivers Convention Center, where the events were held prior to Brownson.
As for the Mavericks, the most important part of the deal is that BushCree will donate a percentage of the profits earned during each fight night back to the Mesa Athletics Dept. Saturday's bouts will benefit the Mavericks wrestling team. "For us, it was something good that can help us with the scholarships, and all that. So we're excited to be able to support [Cage Wars] and have it at our facility, no doubt," said Mavericks wrestling coach Chuch Pipher.
Both sides of the deal also hope that the change of venue will spur an increase in followers. "I think being at the college it's going to attract a different crowd. More people than just the regulars are going to be there, more younger kids, and we might get some more students out here learning [MMA]," stated Brandon Crespin, who will be fighting in the main card Saturday night.
Doors open for Cage Wars XI at 5:30pm on Saturday with the first of 12 fights starting at 7:00pm. Discounted tickets are available for CMU students at the door the night of the fights. Otherwise, general admission is $30. For more ticket info, call Alex at 970-640-8751.
