Woman shot in head by police, expected to recover

SALT LAKE CITY (AP, KKCO) -- A Whitewater woman is in critical condition but expected to survive after being shot in the face by a Morgan County sheriff's deputy following a high-speed pursuit in northern Utah.

Officials have identified the woman as Kristine Nicole Biggs, a 41-year-old from Whitewater. She started the 30-mile chase by speeding away from police late Sunday night after they tried to pull her pickup over for a broken headlight.

After driving over spike strips, the woman flipped and rammed into two sheriff's deputies vehicles. She ignored calls to get out of her car, leading to a deputy firing once at her windshield.

Police say the gunshot went along the bridge of her nose and into her left eye.

KKCO 11 News has learned the woman had an outstanding warrant out of Mesa County for failure to comply with a judge's order. It's believed the warrant was issued in relation to an incident last summer Corn Lake. According to the public information officer for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Biggs was arrested for second degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, and no parks pass in July of 2011. She was booked into the Mesa County Jail.

Bigg's injury is non-life threatening. She is in an Ogden area hospital.
