GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The real estate industry in Mesa County is improving, according to the latest numbers.

For 2012, 3,444 sales were made, an increase of 12.7 percent from the 3,055 in 2011.

In the fourth quarter alone, sales increased 16 percent, totaling $178 million.

"Unemployment's a little bit better than it was back in the time of the recession," said Annette Miller, Heritage Title Company. "We're also seeing some of the inventories getting consumed - the houses that are for sale on the market today, and that always helps with some of the home prices."

Officials say the pre-recession recovery has not yet been reached, but the increasing amount of transactions is an encouraging sign the real estate market is well on its way.

And once again, record low interest rates are expected for this year, which will also help the industry.
