Bikes for homeless teens

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – The community has come together to help out a local homeless shelter for teens.

On Friday the shelter called The House, picked up three brand new Raleigh bikes, locks, and bike helmets, for the teens that live in the shelter.

The bikes were sold to the non-profit by the Bike Shop at a deeply discounted price.
Staff members from The House say they would have never been able to buy the bikes and equipment, if it were not for the Bike Shop giving them such a good deal. The bikes are something the teens at The House can take pride in.

"It's going to help immensely in terms of transportation, to GED testing, education and school everyday and also a lot of teens are applying for jobs, looking for employment or that have a job. We're a very small staff and it's really tough to transport, you know, 3,4,5, 10 teens everyday so this is going to help us in a myriad of ways," says Aaron Stites, program director of The House.

The Bike Shop also donated a bike rack to The House so the teens have a place to store their bikes. The House would also like to thank the school district and Ametek Dixson for helping provide funding to purchase the bikes.
