Blackjack Pizza on North Avenue is locking the doors for the final time

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – A popular pizza joint across the street from CMU is turning off their ovens and locking the doors for the final time on Friday.

Blackjack Pizza on North Avenue shut down Friday after selling the last pizza they had.

Owner Jesse Nelson says not having capital and dealing with some potential legal issues has forced him to close down.

Nelson is from the Grand Valley and purchased the Blackjack about a year ago, after being an employee at the store for several years. He says it's his fault the store is dealing with the issues forcing him to close down.

"Through hard work you can achieve anything. If you take the path of least resistance you eventually end up at the lowest point. I’ve always believed that. Even though it didn't work out for me here I do feel bad and I do take full responsiblity despite all the rumors and gossip out there I take full responsibility for Blackjack closing today," says Jesse Nelson, owner of Blackjack Pizza.

Nelson says he wants to thank the Grand Junction community for supporting the store throughout the years Blackjack employed 15 to 20 people depending on the season.
