Waldorf system introduced to parents

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – The Valley's new charter school, Juniper Ridge Community School, is getting ready for it's first open enrollment.

On Wednesday night, the school held an informational meeting for parents of potential students to help them learn more about the new school. Juniper Ridge Community School is a tuition- free charter school using the Waldorf curriculum. This is a curriculum based on arts and nature that allows students to interact with their environment.

At the meeting with parents, Rainbow Rosenbloom, a national Waldorf consultant and curriculum provider talked about the Waldorf system. "It involves the integration of arts into every single aspect of their learning, so instead of art as a special subject, art is part of the teaching of math, part of the teaching of language arts, history, science. So it's not regarded as something other than but actually embodying the way that we teach the subjects," says Rainbow Rosenbloom.

Currently the school is taking teacher applications while searching for a permanent location.

Open enrollment for students begins on February 18th.
