District 51 parents learn more about academic options for students

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – District 51 students have a variety of academic options that reach outside the traditional boundaries of the classroom.

On Wednesday evening, in an effort to educate parents and new students on those options, an academic fair was held at Bookcliff Middle School. The idea is to showcase the different options students have, from rock climbing, to music, to computers as academic options to help District 51 students prepare for their future. "These last few years of school, as we're getting older, we're trying to figure out what we're going to do with the rest of our lives, and just trying different things and finding our interest is always good to have opportunities to allow that,” says Carman Debereux, a 10th grade student at Grand River Virtual Academy.

School officials say it's important to have different academic options for students. A variety of options work well with students who have different learning styles and it helps those disenchanted students stay engaged with academics.
