Mesa County unemployment rate increases

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The holiday season is a difficult time to track unemployment numbers with so many seasonal jobs being filled.

However, national statistics show the number of Americans nationwide filing for unemployment hit a five-year low last week.

Unfortunately, Mesa County isn't helping that number decrease.

Mesa County Workforce officials are reporting that from November to December, the unemployment rate increased from 8.4 to 8.6 percent.

There is good news though: the labor force is up by about 2,000 in Mesa County from this same time last year.
