Grand Ave. fire spreads to second home

UPDATE @ 4:45 p.m.
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Firefighters have knocked down a blaze at a home in downtown Grand Junction and kept it from spread too far onto the house next door.

The fire broke out around 3:40 p.m. outside the home at 211 Grand Avenue. Fire officials say a Grand Junction Police officer nearby spotted the blaze and tried to warn the homeowner. He didn't get an answer when he knocked on the door, so he went inside and told the homeowner to grab his dog and evacuate.

At this point, fire officials believe the blaze started outside the home, but are unsure what caused it. It did spread to the roof of the home next door, which is extremely close to the first home.

No injuries have been reported. However, Red Cross has been called to help the victims. No word yet on the total amount of damage.
