DENVER, Colo. (KKCO) – Almost 2,000 Colorado taxpayers have not received tax returns this year due to mailing address errors.
This total includes 40 taxpayers in Mesa County, 12 taxpayers in Montrose County, and 6 taxpayers in Delta County.
Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet urges Coloradoans to check the Internal Revenue Service’s “Where’s My Refund” tool on IRS.gov to check the status of their 2010 tax returns. Taxpayers can call 1-800-829-1954 to access a telephone version and receive instructions on updating addresses.
This year, undelivered refund checks average $1,547.
“During these tough times, these refunds can make a big difference in families’ budgets,” said Bennet. “I encourage all Coloradoans who believe they did not receive a tax return they were owed to check this site.”
The IRS does not contact taxpayers by e-mail to correct addresses, alert them of refunds, or ask for personal information. Any e-mail that asks for this or any information is a phishing scam.
