MONTROSE - The Montrose Indians couldln't overcome five tournovers as they dropped their season opener at home, 31-26 to the Glenwood Springs Demons.
Montrose jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after quarterback Kirk English threw a lateral to Nate Robertson who then found a wide open Mac Alexander for the game's first score.
But three of the five Montrose turnovers came in the first half and the Demons turned each of the Indian mishaps into scores.
Glenwood, who is ranked 3rd in class 3A, rode the legs and arm of quarterback Dakota Stonehouse to a 24-14 halftime lead.
The Demons scored to start the second half and held off a fourth quarter Montrose run to lock down the week one win.
