GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Wildcats scored four runs in the 5th inning to take a 6-2 lead on route to a 7-3 win over Montrose in a Southwestern League game at Suplizio Field on Wednesday.
Montrose (5-3, 0-2) tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th courtesy of a Nate Robertson RBI triple. But Fruita Monument (7-3, 1-0) answered in the fifth. Ryan Blair led off with a triple and then scored on an RBI single by Drew Bridges.
The Indians brought the tying run to the plate in the 6th inning, but FMHS Head Coach Ray McLennan brought in Shai Fullmer with the bases loaded and nobody out. The senior left-hander retired the next three batters as Montrose managed just one run.
The Indians threatened once again in the 7th, bringing the tying run to the on-deck circle but again Fullmer came up with a strikeout to get out of trouble.
