GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Week after week athletes take to the field for another shot at proving they have what it takes to make it to the top.
Then comes Monday morning and the newest prep rankings are released, giving teams a look at how they're stacking up to the top ten in the state.
Though Grand Junction was knocked out of the 5A rankings last week and was unable to make it back in this week, a handful of Western Slope teams have stayed afloat.
In class 4A the Montrose Indians moved into that number two spot below Monarch. They remain the only Western Slope team in the mix, and it's a tough one. The top ten has made room for five undefeated teams, but there are still four others unable to crack into the rankings - including Durango.
This Friday Montrose has their biggest test that will certainly shake up the rankings come next Monday when they face number one ranked Monarch on the road.
In 3A there's been some great representation from Rifle and Palisade. Both teams are undefeated at 4-0, but they've had quite the easy ride to this point in the season.
The Bears have outscored their opponents by 171 points while tacking on two shutouts. The bulldogs, oddly enough, the exact same story. They've outscored their opponents by 171 points and also put out two shutouts.
When these two face off October 4th, buckle up, because we'll finally get to see who holds the upper hand.
Still in 3A the Delta Panthers made a move into the top ten in the number nine spot. The are 3-1 through week four of play.
Down in 1A Cedaredge had a bye week and remained in the number three spot.
Hotchkiss has stayed consistent. Despite being underestimated at the start of the season, they're 3-1 and at number four in the rankings for a third straight week.
