GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Grand Junction relied on defense down the stretch to hang on for a 48-39 win over Montrose, giving the Tigers their first SWL title since 2007.
Fawn Brady led GJHS (15-7, 8-1) with 19 points while Paula Lage chipped in with 11 points. Grand Junction led 28-21 at the half, and 39-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Madison Gurule kept it close for Montrose (17-6, 7-2) scoring 13 points while Kaylee Walker led the Indians with 14 points.
Montrose has only lost two games in 2011 - both to Grand Junction.
BOYS: GJHS 66, Montrose 41
Dutch Johnson got a balanced attack from his team, as four Tigers scored in double-figures to pace Grand Junction to a 66-41 win over Montrose on Tuesday night.
Nate Yanez led GJHS (14-7, 7-2) with 17 points, while Sean Rubalcaba scored 16 points and Tyler Winder added 15 points. Casey Burns also hit double-digits with 10 points.
The Tigers jumped out to a 20-7 lead, but Montrose (15-6, 5-4) cut the lead to 7 by halftime. But Grand Junction ended the game on a 22-7 run to pull away for the 25-point victory.
Both Grand Junction teams will host Central on Friday, while Montrose hosts Fruita Monument
