GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Montrose was sitting pretty after taking a 1-0 lead late in the second half, but Fruita Monument answered with a pair of goals in the final minutes to claim a 2-1 victory at Canyon View Park on Thursday.
Emily Bernier put the Indians on the board after both teams were shutout for much of the game. The Wildcats went into desperation mode, and finally scored when Megan Hale beat two defenders on her way to netting the equalizer.
Seconds later, Montrose looked to capitalize. Nikki Hoelzer struck a missile from 35 yards out, but Kylie Goetz made a fantastic save, punching the ball right before it had a chance to find the top of the net. McKinley Kane was right there for the rebound for the Indians but Goetz again made a great save keeping the game tied at one.
Just a few seconds after that, Ashley Forrest chipped in the winning goal with less than a minute on the clock.
