Montrose boys, girls beat Central

The Central Warriors might be the most improved team since the start of the season, but they came up one point shy of their 4th straight win, losing to Montrose 55-54 in an SWL game at CHS on Friday.

In boys hoops, Fruita Monument split a double-header at the Hinkley Tournament while Central lost a pair. On the girls side, Fruita Monument and Grand Junction both notched close wins.

SWL Football Awards feature Rubalcaba, Walker and Owens

After winning their first SWL title in five years, the Grand Junction Tigers dominated the SWL awards. Sean Rubalcaba was named the SWL offensive player of the year, Casey Walker was named defensive player of the year, and Robbie Owens was given co-coach of the year.

SWL Boys soccer awards

Sean Foster was named the SWL player of the year after he led the Grand Junction Tigers to a 5A playoff appearance. Foster recorded 6 goals and 7 assists.
