Genoa, Colo. (AP) High wind and blowing dust apparently contributed to a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 that killed two people and forced authorities to close an 80-mile stretch of the highway.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Hall says at least eight passenger cars and six tractor-trailer trucks were involved in the collision near mile Marker 374 on I-70’s westbound lanes. That’s near the town of Genoa, about 90 miles southeast of Denver.
The collision happened at about 1 p.m. Monday. Hall says two people were killed and at least six others were injured, some seriously.
The patrol shut down the interstate between Limon and Burlington near the Kansas state line.
The eastbound lanes reopened at about 5:20 p.m., while the westbound lanes remained closed until about 9:30 p.m. while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
