AAA: 4th of July travel dips due to recession

As millions take to the roads and the skies, flights and traffic look to be running smoothly for the 4th of July weekend.
No major delays at Denver International or the Grand Junction Airport as of Friday afternoon.
According to AAA, Americans traveling away from home this holiday has dropped to 37 million--a three year low.
That's down almost two percent from this time last year.
The travel club cites the weak economy as one reason more people are opting to stay within 50 miles of their home base this weekend.
On the roads--while gas prices have jumped about nine percent nationally from Memorial Day weekend, they are still down a whopping 35–percent from this time last year.
In Virginia Beach, Virginia, a popular summer tourist destination, roadways were clear this morning.
Interstate 264 is normally one of the most traveled roadways in the area, and as mid–morning, it was wide open.
AAA says the clear roads illustrate a near three percent drop in auto travel from last summer.
