Eight people have been arrested after a photo surfaced of Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps with a water pipe.

Police say the photo was taken inside a house in Columbia, South Carolina.

Seven people have been charged with drug possession and one person has been charged with distribution.

According to Columbia, South Carolina NBC affiliate WIS, police have also confiscated the water pipe Phelps was holding in the photo.

The water pipe was reportedly located after the owner of it tried to sell it on E-Bay for $100 thousand.

Following the release of the photo, Phelps released a written statement, apologizing for his behavior.
