GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Lance Armstrong's confession to Oprah Winfrey of his doping during seven Tour de France titles alarms many sports fans.

It does not, however, surprise Scott Mercier who was a professional cyclist for four years in the '90's.

Mercier estimates that more than 95% of the riders on the european tour he raced on were involved with some form of a doping program.

In a KKCO 11 Sports Special Feature, Mercier, now CMU's cycling director, talks with KKCO 11 Sports' Sports Director Phil Stafford about why people felt the need to use banned substances and if the sport is now rid of that problem.
