DENVER (AP) -- A woman is dead and a man is hospitalized in critical condition after what police are calling a murder-attempted suicide at a suburban Denver hotel.

Westminster police spokeswoman Cheri Spottke says officers were called to a Savannah Suites hotel at about 7 p.m. Friday on reports of shots fired.

She says they arrived to find two people suffering gunshot wounds. She says a female clerk at the Westminster hotel died at the scene, and a male suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Spottke says the man was able to communicate briefly with officers at the scene. She says authorities believe the shooting was a murder-attempted suicide, and they do not believe there is any danger to the community.

The names of the two people involved were withheld pending notification of family.
