A key witness admits to lying about spotting two escaped Utah inmates. A Dagget County Sheriff's Detective says the key witness, a 27 year old man from Vernal, faces criminal charges for making up a bogus sighting.
Originally, a tip was reported to authorities that convicted killers, 27 year old Juan Carlos Diaz–Arevalo, and 49 year old Danny Martin Gallegos were wearing their jail clothing when they tried to thumb a ride on Utah Highway 191. The witness confessed to lying about being solicited for a ride, by the two escapees earlier this week.
Authorities say other witnesses who reported seeing the inmates along the same stretch of Utah highway were mistaken for hunters.
