Colorado Cop Shot While Investigating Candy Theft

KUSA- A Windsor, Colorado police officer was shot Saturday afternoon while investigating a theft of candy.

The shooting happened around 1:50 p.m. The Weld County Sheriff's Office says two Windsor Police Officers were responding to a housing community for senior citizens on a shoplifting complaint. An estimated $25 worth of candy had been stolen from a grocery store.

The suspect described as being male and around 67 years old, shot one of the officers four times, three times in his bulletproof vest and once in his lower torso. He was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment where he is listed in good condition.

The other officer returned fire and may have hit the suspect. The suspect barricaded himself in one of the apartments and was later found dead of gunshot wounds.

Windsor Police at the scene would not say if the suspect has made prior threats against officers.
